I visited the Legendary Hacienda Patron this week
The Main Hacienda Building
This week I got to visit the legendary Hacienda Patron with an incredible group of content creators. And before y'all start giving me grief about Patron, I think you may need to re-examine what you think about them. And this is not sponsored, they did not pay me to say anything they just flew me to Mexico to experience what they are about along with some other content creators.
I have always stood by and said that they do incredible things for the bartending community and bartenders but what I didn't know was how much effort and energy they put into their local community. They have some amazing initiatives such as the fact that they do not own many agave fields, instead opting to work exclusively with families of farmers on a pre-determined set price per kilo of agave helping the families weather the price fluctuations.
They are the 3rd largest producer of tequila and they employ about 2400 people across all of their production. For reference another of the top 3 biggest producer of tequila employs about 500.
And as for the quality of their product, while I wouldn’t rank it in my top 5 tequilas of all time, Patron is a well made product, additive free and not many people know this but they are the largest producer of Tahona crushed agave tequila in Mexico. They have more Tahonas in activity than all of the other tequila producers. Theyre standard line of Patron is actually a 50/50 blend of Roller mill and tahona crushed agave tequila.
Just one of Patrons Tahonas
Im saying all of this because people often ask me for a easily accessible well made tequila and Patron checks all of those boxes and honestly given how they treat their staff and community Id say they are a good fit.
Anyway, I will have some content coming from the trip soon. Just need to edit it now. Lots of traveling lately and another trip coming in 12 days or so to New Orleans for Tales of the Cocktail!
Tales of the Cocktail 2024
Speaking of Tales of the Cocktail, I will be doing two separate events this year! Lucas Assis and I will be bartending a special dinner with Lalo Tequila on Tuesday July 23rd in the evening featuring some original cocktails of ours. I will be sharing the RSVP link to that when and if i get one on my socials so stay tuned for that.
I will also be doing a guest Shift with Shopify on July 25th From 1-5 PM making some original NA Cocktails. Which you can RSVP to here.
6 Incredible Budget-Friendly Whiskeys You Need to Try
Whiskey doesn't have to break the bank to be enjoyable. In fact, some of the most satisfying pours can be found for under $30. This curated list spans various whiskey styles, from bourbon to Scotch, offering something for every palate and budget.
Bourbon
Four Roses Yellow Label: This classic bourbon, often priced around $20, is a versatile choice for both cocktails and sipping. While not the most complex, its mellow sweetness and approachable nature make it a reliable staple.
Old Grand-Dad Bonded: This 100-proof (50% ABV) bourbon packs a punch, but its bottled-in-bond designation ensures quality and adherence to strict production standards. Expect a robust flavor profile, perfect for mixing or savoring on its own.
Honorable Mention: Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond: A steal at around $17, this bourbon offers incredible value for its price and is another excellent option for those seeking a bonded whiskey.
Journeyman Featherbone Bourbon: While technically exceeding our $30 limit, this craft bourbon from Michigan deserves recognition for its exceptional quality and unique character. If you're willing to splurge a little, it's a worthwhile investment.
Rye Whiskey
Old Overholt Rye: Aged four years and typically priced under $20, this rye whiskey delivers a balanced combination of spice and smoothness. It's a versatile choice for both sipping and cocktails.
Rittenhouse Rye: A bartender favorite, this 100-proof bottled-in-bond rye is not for the faint of heart. Its bold, spicy character may be intense for some, but those who appreciate its unique flavor profile will find it incredibly rewarding.
Irish Whiskey
Powers Gold Label: This Irish whiskey, often found for under $25, boasts a rich maltiness and smooth finish. It's an excellent alternative to the ubiquitous Jameson and a great introduction to the diverse world of Irish whiskey.
Scotch
Monkey Shoulder: A blended malt Scotch whisky priced right at $30, Monkey Shoulder offers a delightful balance of flavors and a smooth, approachable character. It's a fantastic gateway into the world of Scotch for those who find single malts too intense.
Whether you're a seasoned whiskey enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this list proves that you don't need to empty your wallet to enjoy a great dram. Each of these budget-friendly options offers unique characteristics and value, making them worthy additions to your bar cart.
Cheers!
An Incredible Video I saw this week:
The Thirsty Whale made this incredible video showing his audience how to make a spaghett and its such a fun and easy drink that I think you all need to know about it. People love bottled drinks and easy to make ones and Justin just makes it look so fun.
